Ryan Bush:

The scripture never speaks of Christ doing anything for his own sake, but still of his love to us. His incarnation was for us. Isaiah 9:6. To us a child is born. To us a son is given. His obedience was for us. Galatians 4:45. But when the fullness of time was come, God sent forth his son, made of a woman, made under the law to redeem them that were under the law that we might receive the adoption of sons. His death was for us. Daniel 9:26. The Messiah shall be cut off but not for himself. Our Lord died not for himself but for his people. Isaiah 53:4-5. Surely he hath borne our griefs and carried our sorrows. He was wounded for our transgressions. He was bruised for our iniquities. The chastisement of our peace was upon him, and by his stripes, we are healed. He was made nothing for himself, but all things for us. Thomas Manton.
