None deny that He died on the cross, but prophecy required that His soul should be made an offering for sin and have bitter travail. His soul was exceedingly sorrowful even unto death, even before He was brought into the judgment hall. The reason was He was treading the winepress of His Father's wrath alone. William Swan Plummer.
Ryan Bush:Yet it was the will of the Lord to crush him. He has put him to grief. When his soul makes an offering for guilt, he shall see his offspring. He shall prolong his days. The will of the Lord shall prosper in His hand. Out of the anguish of his soul he shall see and be satisfied. And going a little farther, He fell on His face and prayed, saying, My Father, if it be possible let this cup pass from Me, nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will. For the second time, He went away and prayed, My Father, if this cannot pass unless I drink it, your will be done.
